Sports Injury Rehabilitation Care
Whether you’re participating in organized sports, or doing training exercises, you can be prone to having an injury. An injury could be anything from a sprained ankle or pulled muscle, to a broken bone or torn ACL.
We see injuries all the time. They are a part of sports. From little kids participating in little league games, all the way up to the professionals. Injuries happen at all levels.
Sports injuries can be caused by multiple factors, such as poor fundamental movement patterns, poor training techniques, not warming up properly, fatigue, overuse, dehydration, improperly fitting equipment, or just landing the wrong way.
At Next Step Rehabilitation, we work with athletes to help them recover from their injuries and get them back on the field or into the gym, doing what they love.
For many athletes, returning from a sports injury can be a long and challenging process.
Each athlete is different and will respond to treatments and exercises at different rates. At Next Step Rehabilitation, we understand that each individual has his/her own unique needs. That’s why we evaluate each athlete individually. By doing this we are then able to understand the injury better and prescribe the right rehabilitation plan.
So, what goes into a good rehabilitation plan? No matter what the injury is, there are fundamental components that need to go into making a successful plan. These components are:
Pain Management
Flexibility and Joint ROM
Strength and Endurance
Proprioception and Coordination
Functional Rehabilitation
Psychology of Injury
There are also seven principles of rehabilitation. These principles are:
Avoid aggravation
Timing
Compliance
Individualization
Specific sequencing
Intensity
Total patient
Once the condition of the injured athlete improves, they will be able to resume strength and conditioning exercise, as well as sport-specific activities. This will help prepare their return to play. However, the athlete will not be able to return to play until medically cleared.
Communication between athlete, health care provider and coach is essential to a safe and most efficient recovery. Lack of communication may prevent athletes from returning to their full potential as well as increase the risk of new injuries, or recurring injuries.
Whether you are an elite athlete or just love activities on the weekend, Next Step Rehabilitation will help you restore movement patterns, strength, flexibility, endurance, and power after an injury.
